This is the third time that I have launched a Cottage Garden Living website. I began garden blogging at least 10 years ago, but for one reason or another, I would repeatedly suspend that effort. Yet, I have consistently been researching gardening for about 30 years. Last week, I began loading content again to this site, and while I only have a few garden posts on my current garden blog now, I want to pause for a moment and say that I am both an avid cottage gardener and a painter. I rarely, however, do both at the same time. For several years, the byline of this blog was: “To Everything, There Is A Season,” and I could easily say that those words are the mantra of my life.

Although the cleanliness of my house is not a testimony to this fact, I am a bit obsessive about the things that matter to me. Keeping a clean house is low on my priority list, but creating my gardens and painting compete for the top positions. Because I am obsessive both about my gardening and about my art, I have discovered that I can only do one of those things at a time. For me, there are definite seasons for gardening, and the other of my seasons are for art. While I’m gardening, I grow flowers to paint, and while I am not gardening, I paint those flowers.

Several people have asked me if I sell my paintings, and I do, but I am not at all obsessive about business, about showing my art, and/or about making a living. Hopefully, I can correct some of my business weaknesses soon, but following is a short list of some of my flower paintings and/or prints that I currently have for sale. This selection of paintings represent some of the paintings that were inspired by my garden:

Jacki Kellum Debut Picture Book to be Released in 2022

One of the greatest blessings of my life is that my debut picture book will be released in 2022, and the even greater news is that my book is being published by Doubleday for Young Readers, which is a division of the Penguin Publishing Empire:

But I am thrilled to say that I’m not illustrating my debut picture book. The fabulous illustrator Sydney Hanson is doing those illustrations.

My debut picture book is the story of how I imagine that the Donkey might have experienced the carrying of Mary to Bethlehem and the angels, the shepherds, the lambs, the kings, the stable, the manger, and the Nativity that unfolded after that. Somehow, I must agree that Sydney’s soft, sweet illustrations are perfect for that book.
