“An ideal pillar Rose, ‘Golden Showers’ is guaranteed to make a profound impact with its 20 to 30 light, feathery petals, which start with high centers then opening to relaxed ruffles. Its vigorous, long-blooming season provides a fantastic colorful display for all to admire! Framed by thriving, medium-green foliage, this disease-resistant Climber arises early in the season, repeating heavily through the summer before slowing down and gradually retiring for the winter.

“Winner of numerous awards along with its AARS honor, this last Rose to bloom tolerates shade better than most other Roses. Set upon long, strong stems, ‘Golden Showers’ offers wonderful cut flowers. A classic favorite of rosarians, this Climber was introduced in 1956. With the blooms appearing at different stages of the season and fading to light cream as they mature, the bush offers a variety of color schemes.

“A descendant of ‘Charlotte Armstrong’ and ‘Captain Thomas’, Golden Showers is larger than its parents with better color, vigor and fragrance! Still the standard for yellow Climbers, it will fill your garden with bright light, rain or shine. Like other climbing rose, it needs monthly fertilizing and regular deep watering during the growing season. Remove spent blooms to encourage repeat flowering.” Jackson Perkins

While I am planting cooler, pink and white roses in my front yard, I am planting red Altissmo rose and yellow Golden Showers in my back yard. The effect will be totally different, Red and yellow are warm colors, and my backyard will have a tangy, Caribbean flavor. In the front, I’ll team the pastel pink and white with pastel blue hydrangeas. My front will be cooler in tone.
